A quick one today, just to give a list of some interesting new releases, and pass along some music that was recently passed along to me.

First, a look at what's in stores today:

Joan Armatrading - This Charming Life (buy) New one from the legendary British singer. Couldn't they have hired a better designer for the cover? Yeah, I'm an art snob. Deal with it.

Erykah Badu - New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh (buy) Haven't heard this one yet, but I've long been a fan of hers.

Black Francis - Nonstoperotik (buy) New album from the former Pixie.

Catherine Wheel - Ferment (buy) Re-issue with bonus tracks.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Tender Prey (buy)
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Henry's Dream (buy)
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Good Son (buy) The newest batch of re-mastered and expanded albums from Mr. Cave & friends. "The Mercy Seat" in 5.1, I'm getting giddy.

Matthew Ryan - Concussion (buy) Re-issue.

Seasick Steve - Man From Another Time (buy) I had never heard of Seasick Steve, until he was mentioned by one Nick Cave a while back. Very cool stuff, if you're unfamiliar try to check him out.

Various Artists - Stax Number Ones (buy) An outstanding collection of classics.

There's also some re-issues from Galaxy 500 (US releases), Thelonius Monk (vinyl), and Sun Ra (vinyl). A good week.

Three bits of music that were just pointed out to me:

The Brooklyn-based band My Pet Dragon have their new single, "Lover In Hiding", available for free download over here. I've heard the name before, but this is my first taste of their music, and I'm liking what I'm hearing.

I recently had a brief e-mail based chat with a guy named Ken, who mentioned that, back in the nineties, he recorded some stuff under the name Brian. So, I checked out his music, and it's damn good. Head over to the MySpace page and give it a listen. "Turn Your Lights On" is a fave.

If you're a fan of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, and who isn't, their new album is being streamed over at NPR. You've not heard of them? Seriously? What rock have you been hiding under? Get over there and listen. Go.

Oh yeah, and I made it to 200 posts. Yehaa, or something like that.
