THE FRAMES

Ah, look how young they were there. Yeah, you must know The Frames by now. This is the third time I've posted about them.

One wonderful blog reader recently gave me a link to a bunch of their recordings I didn't yet have. The highlight of those was the 4-song demo EP they put out around the time of their second album, Fitzcarraldo, which is also when this pic was taken.

The demos are far too good to keep to myself, so here they are, along with a few other goodies from the early days for good measure. Big big thanks to Chris on this one.

The Angel At My Table demo EP:
The Frames DC - "Angel At My Table" (Demo)
The Frames DC - "Revelate" (Demo)
The Frames DC - "Fitzcarraldo" (Demo)
The Frames DC - "Denounced" (Demo)

A few other things:
The Frames - "Life's A Gas" (T. Rex cover) From the Turn On Your Record Player EP.
The Frames - "Last Song To You" B-side of "The Dancer" single.
The Frames - "Stamp My Name" B-side of "The Dancer" CD single.
The Frames - "Teardrops In My Wine" B-side of the "Masquerade" single.

There's still several more b-sides and rarities that I don't have, so if there's anyone out there that's got some goodies and is willing to share, feel free to drop me a line.

Get some Frames albums:

(The Frames official store)
Another Love Song, 1992
Fitzcarraldo, 1995 (buy import) (as The Frames DC)

These days, several of the guys are touring with The Swell Season (see my last post).

Switching modes from Ireland over to Scotland, there's a short acoustic set from The Proclaimers available to stream over at NPR. It's from their appearance at Mountain Stage in West Virginia earlier this year.

THE FRAMES

The Frames are still, unfortunately, not very well known 'round these parts. When people have heard of them, it's usually as the band with that guy from that movie.

Roberto, over at Voices from the Moon, posted a bunch of their stuff a couple weeks back. That reminded me that the one post I did on them ages ago no longer has valid links. So, I figured it was time to put up another batch of b-side goodies.

The Frames - "The Dancer" (acoustic version) Taken from their first ep, Turn On Your Record Player. The regular version is on the long out-of-print (though it can be downloaded from itunes) debut album, Another Love Song.
The Frames - "Stamp My Name" B-side of "The Dancer" single.
The Frames - "Nixxi Focal" An odd little instrumental from the "Masquerade" single. Completely unlike anything else I've ever heard from them.
The Frames - "Roger" This was on the original version of their second album, Fitzcaraldo, but was replaced with "Evergreen" on the more common version.
The Frames - "One Irish Rover" A hold-over from my first post. I had to put it up again. I love this song. Featuring a guest appearance from Hothouse Flower Liam O'Maonlai. From the "Revelate" single.
The Frames - "Raglan Road" A traditional song recorded for the Liss Ard, Vol. 1 compilation. (has there ever been a vol. 2?)

Buy some of The Frames albums:

Another Love Song, 1992
Fitzcaraldo, 1996
Dance the Devil. . . , 1999
For the Birds, 2001 (buy)
Breadcrumb Trail, 2002 (Ireland & Czech Republic-only live album)

The Cost, 2006 (buy) (a Deluxe Edition is available from iTunes with extra tracks)

I'm also putting in the coments section a list of the rarities that I've never been able to hunt down (the ones I know of, anyway). If anyone has any of them, and would like to thank me for all the hard work. . .

THE FRAMES

The Frames have been tooling around their native Ireland (and other places) since the early nineties. Word has it that in their homeland, they are nearly as popular as the mighty U2. That's a good thing, since their recent output far surpasses the recent offerings of Bono & Co.

Not that I'm trying to slag U2. Their earlier work still ranks among my favorites, but I grew tired of them about the time Bono did that whole McPhisto thing, which is about when The Frames showed up on the scene.

Anyway, this isn't about U2. So let's get to some music by The Frames:

The Frames - "The Dancer" This is actually an album cut from Another Love Song, but the album is long out of print. If you manage to find a copy, it's well worth the buy.
The Frames - "One Irish Rover" B-side of the "Revelate" single. Features a guest appearance by fellow Irishman Liam O'Maonlai (of Hothouse Flowers).
The Frames - "Frailach" A traditional song recorded for the compilation album Liss Ard, Vol. 1.
The Frames - "Listen Girl" B-side of "Headlong" single.
The Frames - "Rise" Original b-side version, from "Lay Me Down" single. This was later re-recorded for the album The Cost. (buy) Though I love the original, the album version is even better.
The Frames with Jan Hruby - "Fitzcarraldo" (live) From the US-only EP Roads Outgrown. The studio version is on the album of the same name, and is one of my all time favorite songs.
