GRANT LEE BUFFALO

A few years back (2001 to be exact) the members of Grant Lee Buffalo culled their archives, and issued the double album Storm Hymnal.(buy) One disc of album tracks and singles, the second of b-sides and rarities. It’s a great package. I highly recommend it.

If you’ve never heard of Grant Lee Buffalo, download a song or two and give them a try. Their sound was a mix of folk rock, with a bit of Americana. If you like early Waterboys, you’d probably like them. Of course, if you’ve heard of The Waterboys, you’ve probably heard of Grant Lee Buffalo, too.

Rarities not on Storm Hymnal:

Grant Lee Buffalo - “Dixie Drug Store” (Alternate Take) from the “Fuzzy” single. Much longer than the album version, with far more detail of the narrator’s night with Ms. Laveau. The album version is on Fuzzy. (buy)
Grant Lee Buffalo - “Fuzzy” (2 Meter Session)
Grant Lee Buffalo - “For the Turnstiles” (Live Neil Young cover) from the Like A Shot bootleg.
Grant Lee Buffalo - “Burning Love“ (Live Elvis cover) from the Blue Plate Special EP.
Grant Lee Buffalo - “Stockton” (Black Session, 10 SEP1993) unreleased song.
Grant Lee Buffalo - “In My Room” (Beach Boys cover) The only good song on the otherwise repulsive soundtrack to the repulsive tv show, Friends.(buy if you must)
Grant Lee Buffalo - “Mockingbirds” (4-Track Demo) from the Yours Truly promotional EP. Album version on Mighty Joe Moon. (buy)
Grant Lee Buffalo - “We’ve Only Just Begun” (Carpenters cover) from the If I Were A Carpenter tribute album. (buy)
