A TRIBUTE TO PETE & PETE

So, it's been a couple of weeks. I went on a little vacation there. To make up for it, I'm posting more songs than usual today.

And now for something completely different. I'd like to hype a now defunct kids show called The Adventures of Pete and Pete. As many out there may remember, Pete and Pete was a Nickelodeon show back in the early 90's, centered around two red-headed brothers, both named Pete. What some may not have known back when they watched it as kids, is that this show had a slew of musicians guesting as teachers, meter-readers, neighbors, and ice cream salesmen.

A short list of music celebs would include:

LL Cool J as Mr. Throneberry (one of younger Pete's teachers)
LL Cool J - "Mama Said Knock You Out"
Gordon Gano (of Violent Femmes) as Mr. Zank (one of elder Pete's teachers)
Violent Femmes - "Blister In the Sun"
Debbie Harry (of Blondie) as the Wriggley's neighbor
Blondie - "Call Me"
David Johansen (of New York Dolls) as Park Ranger Thorsen
New York Dolls - "Personality Crisis"
Iggy Pop as James Mecklenberg (their friend's father)
Kate Pierson (of B-52's) as the blind millionaire
Iggy Pop with Kate Pierson - "Candy"
Michael Stipe (of R.E.M.) as Captain Scrummy
Syd Straw (of Golden Palominos) as Miss Fingerwood (another teacher)
Golden Palominos - "Boy (Go)" (Michael Stipe - lead vocals, Syd Straw - backing vocals)
Polaris as the band that does the theme song
Polaris - "Hey Sandy"

Other celebs that guested include: Marshall Crenshaw, Steve Buscemi, Adam West, Chris Elliot, Ellen Cleghorn, Janeane Garofalo, Bebe Neuwirth, etc. etc.

For those who are interested, seasons one and two are now available on DVD. You can pick them up at Amazon. Unfortunately, it seems that season three has been indefinitely put on hold.

For more information on the show, and its many guests, you can check out THIS wonderful site, or the show's IMDB listing.
